Mithraism as a movement

Mithras is the figure we regard as the divine father of our human community. Mithras has the role of keeping everything together and enabling people to flourish together.

Mithraism is essentially about serving Mithras in some fashion so that we support him in his purpose of achieving maximum human flourishing.

It can be that people can do useful things without following Mithras, but it is hit and miss. The point of Mithraism as a religion is to help people to be more successful at being useful members of their society and the human race.

Things we can do are:

1. Mitrayasna or 'worship of Mithras'. If we have a good and proper vision of Mithras then worshipping Him helps us become aware of his character and purposes and encourages us to serve him.

2. Dramatism - or 'ritual drama' . Acting out dramatic scenarios which reflect the dramas of the real world is a way of coming to better understanding of the essential forces at play in life and how they impact us and help or hinder the righteous order and the common flourishing.

3. Chrestification is the path of becoming more like Chrestus who is the ideal of the useful person. In other words our aim is to become good Chrestors - people doing good. Perhaps there are three characteristics of a Chrestor: 1. Desire to do Good, 2. Knowledge of how to do Good and 3. Having sufficient strength and ability to make a difference.

4. Sociogenesis is the creation of societies. It is one of the jobs that chrestors can undertake - to take a leading role in bringing into existence new and better ways of people living together.

The Mithraic Agenda:

1. Our idea is that first we must create Mithraic Religious Societies which attract people as members, bring them to identify with the Mithraic Mission and start to educate them into a good moral vision, good thinking and a good spirit.

2. Secondly we must progress to create Pagan Societies by which we mean communities organised not just for religious activity but for all the kinds of activity that support the good human life. Pagan societies can be tribal societies sharing a common culture and having control of resources and a degree of autonomy in navigating their future.

3. Thirdly, in due course, when the time is right (KAIROS), those Mithraists of sufficient capability should seek to be a good impact on the wider world to bring about good governance in larger territories of the earth.
