Zartian Mithraism

Zartian Mithraism is the main religious form of Zartian Mazdaism or neo-Zoroastrianism, which seeks to encourage people to be good servants of the living world, inspired especially by the teachings of Zarathustra.

While grounded in Zoroastrian ideas, Zartian Mithraism is also influenced by both European paganism and Christianity.

Mithraic Triad

Three key concepts or persons in Zartian Mithraism are Zurvan, Auramazda and Mithras.

Zurvan is the endless expanse of time and space, the ground of being, the subtance in which life swims.

Auramazda is 'active wisdom' or the wise creative power which brings into existence the complex beings which swim in the sea of Zurvan.

Mithras is the personified power that brings about the good human social order. Mithras is the father of the good human life, a life lived in community with others.

Amerta Diva

The Amerta Diva are a second class of immortal beings. Diva are 'lower' than the 'Anotera' , which means their character is closer to that of living beings. In other words Diva are anthropomorphic deities, immortal beings pictured in human form and sharing some human characteristics.

Zartian Mithraists currently have a list of twelve Amerta Diva which are Mithras (the Father) , Anhita (the Mother), Sarus (the Listener), Vahram (the Mighty), Athina (the Wise), Vatis (the Frenzied), Tistar (the Gardener), Hestia (the Homemaker), Perkun (the Striker), Venus (the Lover), Tekton (the Craftsman), and Azidus (the Lustful).

In contrast to traditional Zoroastrian teaching the Zartian Divas are not all equally good or bad. Instead the first three are considered generally good, the next eight as open to being good or bad, and the last one as generally bad.

Heptadiva

The Heptadiva are a list of seven diva selected from the above. These are Mithras, Anhita, Sarus, Vahram, Athina, Vatis and Azidus.

N.B. Mithraic rituals typically are performed as dramas enacted in seven parts. The Heptadiva take on importance as they can become the seven 'personas' (characters) in some such rituals. I.e. some Mithraic rituals are dramas which act out the drama of real life through the interaction of the seven persons of the Heptadiva.

Heptamagi

A Magus is a wizard or wise person. The Heptamagi are a list of seven wise persons who we pay special attention to because of the importance and helpfulness of their teachings. The list of Heptamagi which are currently promoted are: Zartus, Gotama, Plato, Aristotle, Hegel, Nietzsche and Jung.

Why Zartian Mithraism?

We believe that modern people need a good religion to help them navigate the times they live in. Many are not satisfied by the well-known offerings and are open to considering alternatives. We believe that Zartian Mithraism will provide some people something a little different and a little better than they can get elsewhere.
