Panta Sophista
PsychosophismPsychosophism is a practice of 'sophistication of the mind and soul' - i.e. of developing the innate wisdom of mind and soul.Gnosticism is a kind of Psychosophism, but its focus is on developing the mind, rather than on developing the character of the soul in a rounded way. Other practices may help in other ways - such as to develop selfless concern or in the appreciation of beauty. There is no specific Zartian practice of psychosophism at present and Zartians are encouraged to look to teachers from other traditions. In particular we mention the established traditions of Stoicism, Buddhism and Western Sufism. Some may also be interested in more religious traditions such as Christian (e.g. Orthodox) spirituality, Neoplatonism, Catharism or other kinds of Sufism. There may also be value in some modern practices promoted as psychotherapy. Updated Mar 4025 HE TetramagiThe Tetramagi are four spiritual leaders of importance to those on the Sophist path. These are Zartus, Gotama (Buddha), Socrates and Jesus. 1. ZartusZoroaster demonstrates to us how to make sense of the good and evil in the world in the language of philosophy.2. GotamaGotama shows us how we need not be a slave to our instinctive mind, but can detach from it and take a calmer view.In our understanding Gotama is the father not only of the well-known Buddhism of the East, but also of the Stoicism of the West. 3. SocratesSocrates teaches us methods for getting at the truth, particular the dialogue, the discussion.4. JesusJesus teaches us the importance of seeing and respecting the full dignity of a person, and of acting with love to each person. He is also a figure of discernment of the patterns of good and evil unclouded by conventional mental straitjackets.August 4026 ZHE |
